I work at Citus Data and I live near San Francisco in California. I’ve worked in tech my entire career, starting with developer tools, then operating systems, then file systems and storage, and now in Postgres. Over the years, because I like taking on new challenges, I’ve worn many hats: first as a developer, later an engineering manager, then product manager, now as a marketer.
I love my job at Citus Data—and the absolute favorite part of my job is interviewing customers to learn about the amazing things they are doing with PostgreSQL and with the Citus database.
This will be my very first time at pgconf.eu, and I’m really excited to be joining the Postgres community in Europe for this event.
I’m told that one of my first words as a child was “why?” and I suppose some things never change. Since I first started working in the Postgres world 1.5 years ago, I continue to be amazed at the enthusiastic responses I get from PostgreSQL developers and users when I ask why they chose Postgres—and why they love Postgres. So I decided to explore this question: Why is the Postgres open source database having such a “moment”? In this talk I’ll share what I’ve learned, what my take is on the top 10 reasons so many of you have so much affection for PostgreSQL.
I hope that anybody who uses Postgres, benefits from Postgres, loves Postgres, and wants to help evangelize Postgres further so that the PostgreSQL community keeps growing in size and influence should come to my talk. I will do my best to make the talk useful and interesting.
I want to see Louise Grandjonc’s talk about Cleaning out crocodiles teeth with PostgreSQL indexes - a story on all the index types in Postgres! Because crocodiles & Postgres. :) And truly, there are so many other good talks on the schedule, it will be difficult to decide which talks to attend! :)
